Just a quick note to say how much I love buy one get one free (BOGOF) in the supermarkets.

Last week we saved almost £20 stocking up on these deals.

Made A Good Saving On Car Insurance

As the title says we managed to make a really good saving on our car insurance this week.

We were up for renewal with the Halifax but after continuing my money saving research on sites such as money saving expert, webcomparison and moneysupermarket I made the effort to look around other insurance companies first.

I'm glad I did because there were some much better deals out there for us. I'm not saying Halifax was a bad offer and I'm sure many people find them a good choice but for us we found better quotes with the Post Office and Norwich Union.

The advice from webcomparison.co.uk and moneysavingexpert.com about comparing quotes was really helpful and the moneysupermarket.com service was so easy to use.

In the end we went with Norwich Union as they were offering a deal on the excess, overall we made a saving of £73 which isn't bad for one hours research.

Certainly worth a try in my opinion

Saving Money: The Weekly Big Shop

One of the largest expenses for any family is the week groceries shop. Of course it's a necessary expense but as it forms a big part of your budget cutting down cost in this area can add up to a huge saving over the year.

There are some really easy ways to lower your weekly shopping bill. For a start give the supermarkets own-brand goods a try. In many cases you will find the quality to be just as good; for most shopping products you are paying more for the brand so don't let them get away with it.y

Always take advantage of discount deals such as buy-one-get-one free (BOGOF), 3 for 2 etc. Shops regularly change their offers so avoiding brand loyalty and switching to products on special offer is a great way to save money.

Finally take advantage of any coupons, reward points and other special offers that make you purchases cheaper. Some people feel embarrassed handing these things over at the tills but the supermarkets release them so take full advantage and make those valuable savings.
